Topic : should와 should have

조동사 should에는 몇 가지 뜻이 있을까요? '... 해야 한다'는 일반적인 의미만 알고 계시는 분이 많으실 것 같습니다. should 뿐만 아니라 would, could, might 같은 다른 조동사들도 쓰이는 문장에 따라 의미가 달라집니다. 그러니까 Listening Part에서 조동사를 놓치지 않도록 주의해야 하겠죠? 하지만 이렇게 문장 전체의 의미를 바꿀 수도 있는 조동사는 본동사보다 약하게 발음되기 때문에 native speaker의 액센트나 억양에 익숙한 사람이 아니면 듣기가 힘듭니다. 자, 그럼 조동사 'should'를 살펴 볼까요? < should의 용법 > A. 타인에게 충고를 하거나 의견을 말할 때 You look exhausted. You should take some rest. B. 어떤 일이 옳지 않거나 예상과 빗나갈 때 This blouse cannot be that expensive. It should be $17 not $77. '과거에 그 행동을 했었어야만 했다'는 걸 나타낼 때 You should have studied harder to pass the exam. = You didn't study harder, so you failed.
